The project’s objectives were to introduce wet season tomato planting to women to allow them take advantage of better prices during the lean tomato production period. A 2 hectares demonstration farm was established for the project, on which all 52 farmers cultivated tomatoes. The farmers were divided into two groups of 26 farmers each, with each group cultivating 1 hectare. Each farmer cultivated an average of 0,04ha. The demonstration farms served as practical training grounds to teach farmers GAP (Good Agronomic Practices) and to demonstrate the results of GAP to participating farmers. The demonstration farms also played a critical role in increasing application and adoption of new technologies and techniques introduced. Furthermore, they also provided opportunities for farmers, the project team, and partners to share feedback and formulate recommendations.
